Mirror mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of all?
Saturday, December 3rd, 2011 by Roberto SaraccoSurely you remember the lines from SnowWhite….A magic mirror that can look at you and talk to you. That was free imagination and we had no problem. as kids, in believing it.
But now, as grown up, we ill be forced to believe it because of advances in technology !
A recent article on the New York Times presents a number of advances in the area of face recognition. You should read it and also follow the link pointing to several companies that are developing advanced technologies that in most cases turn out to be available at a very low cost.
As an example, Immersive Labs, see the picture on the left, has created a screen that, using a camera, can identify the emotion your face expresses, and of course your approximate age, your sex… This information can be used to target advertisement and this is why Immersive labs has started to sell their system for having it embedded in billboards.
Scene Tap, on the other hand, has created an application for cell phones that connects to a web site where a video camera provides, through SceneTap software a sense of the kind of people in an ambient. This information is used by bar-goers to be informed where the action is. Over 50 bars in Chicago have installed this kind of cameras.
