Print me a dress, please.

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010 by Roberto Saracco

Well it may be some years before you can enter a fashion shop and ask them to print you a dress on the spot but it is no longer science fiction.

IronMan 2 is just out and if you go to see the movie (and you will…) take a look at the dresses. There are so many of them and they look so fantastic that you might think they are just computer rendering. They are not. They are real dresses and they have been printed using a 3D printer.

More specifically they have been printed with the Eden printer, http://www.objet.com/3D-Printer/Eden_Family/ , made by Object.

3D printers are getting more and more versatile, and cheap, to be used in a variety of places.

They are still a bit clumsy to use, and they are beyond most people’s pocket but remember when we said the same about colour printers…

So just be patient, the future is ‘round the corner.
